My Approach
Welcome to New Chapter Mental Health Counseling, PLLC! I developed this practice with the goal of helping people feel like they are writing their story. It's not uncommon after experiencing any type of trauma to feel stuck. It is as if chapters of the story of our life, if not sometimes the whole book, have been written by someone else and keep repeating. I use a blend of different approaches to help you understand those chapters and move forward to write the rest of your story.

I will help you understand the science and biology behind how our body does the best it can do keep ourselves safe, even if this leads to actions that have less than desirable outcomes. I incorporate somatic techniques and mindful awareness so you can feel more in control. You will learn strategies to reduce "in-the-moment" intensity and to become curious about patterns you are working on changing. Using a parts approach, we will explore the different aspects of your emotions, thoughts, and actions to understand them better so we can help you meet your own needs.

Internal Family Systems [IFS], Dialectical Behavior Therapy [DBT], Cognitive Behavioral Therapy [CBT], and somatic techniques inform my approach to meet you where you are and tailor my approach based on your goals and preferences.

Each session, you can expect that I will listen deeply without judgment to help us explore your experiences and collaborate around how to find relief. I use probing questions to explore and reflection to help clarify and shift your awareness, and am active in the therapy process. I often bring in humor, curiosity, and compassion to help us develop strategies to find other ways of coping. My goal is that you leave each session with either concrete strategies or new perspectives on how to relate with what you are going through.
